Lean times mean tighter pants for stress eaters
Excess worries and time weighing on many Americans

Leslie Fuller tried to stick to her shopping list on a recent grocery run. Instead, she found herself venturing down the candy aisle, throwing bags of Hershey’s Miniatures and M&M’s into her cart.

“I should just put them down on the seat and sit on them,” said Fuller, a paralegal in Las Vegas. “That’s where they’re going to go — on my behind. I eat them because it makes me feel better.”

Tough times means tighter belts, and for many people tighter pants as they turn to fatty, sugary comfort food to deal with recession-related stress.

Geezzzzzz if things were not tough enough already, then to take that extra pressure out yourself by eating and snacking more so that you gain weight.  It becomes a vicious cycle. With extra body weight you feel sluggish, have less energy and are depressed as your clothes are tighter. So then you want to grab some comfort food to make yourself feel better – well at least orally for a few minutes.

Much better to tackle your stress head on. Work at relaxation just like a work out routine or eating regime. Take 4 to 6 – Five minute rest breaks during the day. Before you grab that snack back, sit back and take 10 deep breaths, relax your muscles and warm your hands. Often you will find that you no longer crave that snack.
